This 3 day Gorilla Trekking Uganda safari will give you the best and memorable encounter of the most endangered species in the world. The Pearl of Africa has become famous from the Mountain Gorillas that inhabit the Impenetrable Forest of Bwindi. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is touched by a splendor with a variety of plant species, multiple colors and not forgetting its profusion of brilliant life. Half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population resides in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Day 1: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Leave Entebbe or Kampala early in the morning and head to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You will stopover at the Equator, to take photographs of the crossing, stretch our legs and enjoy some snacks.
Continue to Igongo Cultural village where you will visit the Ankole Museum. At Igongo learn about the Bahima and Ankole cultures of Uganda. You will have lunch at this same place. Continue to Bwindi Forest. Check in the lodge, have dinner and overnight as you prepare for the next day of Gorilla trekking.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking
With an early morning breakfast and a trekking brief from the Uganda Wildlife Authority guide. Before going for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of trekking mountain gorillas in the wild. Briefing commences at 0730 hours with general briefings conducted at 0800 hours. Gorilla tracking starts at 08:30am, can last from a few hours to a whole day depending on where the gorillas were the previous day.
Head off into the lush vegetation of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search for endangered gorillas. Which is the highlight of visiting Uganda, if not Africa. The thrill of encountering these gentle primates in the wild is well worth the sometimes challenging trek through the thick undergrowth. The hike might be short or long depending on the Gorilla movements.
Once you find the African Mountain Gorillas, you will spend 1 hour watching them feed, groom and interact with each other. You will get to hear the gorillas communicating with one another. Marvel at the sheer size of the dominant adult male gorillas, called Silverbacks. You have to maintain a distance of 7 meters from the gorillas. Encountering these giant apes is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife experiences. Each gorilla encounter is unique, offering its own rewards. You generally get up close to the adult gorillas to watch them feeding, grooming and resting, as well as witnessing the young gorillas at play.
In the afternoon we explore a local community on foot. Inorder to gain insight into the ways of the Ugandan people living near Bwindi Park. See what rural life is like in this part of Africa. Meet the locals and support the Buhoma community in the process. After our walk in Buhoma village you will return to the intimate lodge and have a drink together, recounting our unforgettable adventures with the African Mountain Gorillas.
Day 3: Transfer back to Entebbe or Kampala
After breakfast you will check out of the lodge, returning to Kampala or Entebbe. Our scenic drive takes us through the foothills of Mount Rwenzori towards Fort Portal. You will have stopover for lunch then we continue to Kampala or Entebbe.
You can decide to leave Bwindi Impenetrable National Park after Gorilla trekking for Lake Bunyonyi on the second day. Enjoy a beautiful evening at your lodge.
On the third day enjoy canoeing or boat ride on this Lake. This Lake has over 29 small islands and each of them has its own unique exciting story. Also visit some of the most known Islands for example Akampene Island which was used to punish all those girls who were found pregnant before marriage by isolating them on the island to death. Later enjoy a scenic drive back to Entebbe or Kampala.
