The peak season is the best time to visit gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Tracking gorillas during the rainy season is more challenging due to the overgrown forest vegetation and muddy trails. However visitors shouldn’t be discouraged coming in the rainy season. Bwindi is a rain forest therefore some of the rain should be expected throughout the year. What is a gorilla permit?
A gorilla permit is an authorization card that allows you to visit the mountain gorillas in Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). With this permit per person, you pay to spend one hour in company of one family of mountain gorillas.

Gorilla tracking permits, these are issued differently according to the number of habituated gorillas in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. A Group of only 8 people is allowed to visit a single gorilla family.
The cost of a gorilla permit
Gorilla tracking permits costs to Foreign Non Residents $700, Foreign Residents $600 and East African Residents 250,000 Ugx.
The Gorilla Habituation permits go for $1500 Foreign Non Residents, $1000 Foreign Residents and 750,000 Ugx for East African Residents.
Validity of a gorilla permit
A gorilla trekking permit is valid for one day and allows you to spend one hour in the presence of the mountain gorillas.

Gorilla permits are issued on first come first served basis, it is always advisable for travelers who want to enjoy this experience to book them in advance. They are small in number it requires one to book atleast 4 months ahead to avoid disappointments.
