There are only 850 mountain Gorillas left in the world and Uganda holds 60% of that total with about 400 of them residing in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi is located in the southern part Uganda and is the most popular place to trek the Gorillas in Uganda.
Gorilla trekking involves getting a little dirty and bushwhacking through thick jungle with an experienced local guide to find a troop of habituated gorillas.

Buhoma Sector
Buhoma is located in the northern region of Bwindi Impenetrable National park and the first sector to be opened for Gorilla tourism in 1993. Buhoma is home to Habinyanja gorilla family, Rushegura Gorilla family and Mubare Gorilla family all available for trekking. Its one of the most visited area of the park compared to other sectors. The easy access from Kabale and Kihihi airstrip makes Buhoma the best part of Bwindi joyfully to visit.
Rushaga Sector
Rushaga is located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National park. This sector is home to 5 Gorilla families Mishaya, Kahungye, Nshogi, Busingye and Bweza and its one of the sectors for Gorilla habituation.
Ruhija Sector
Ruhija sector is located in the eastern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National park and this region is a home to 3 Gorilla families namely – Oruzogo, Bitukura and Kyaguliro all available for trekking.
Nkuringo Sector
Nkuringo sector is located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and it’s the sector normally visited by visitors who are physically fit and those who prefer longer hour treks. Nkuringo’s weather is different compared to other sectors because it has mist in the morning and sunset in the evening. It also has incredible views of the Virunga volcanoes and a number of crater Lakes which reward visitors with a lifetime experience.
